"Aerosoltransmissionreferstothemixingoftheviruswithdropletsintheairtoformaerosols,whichcausesinfectionafterinhalation,accordingtomedicalexperts,"saidZengQun,deputyheadoftheShanghaiCivilAffairsBureau.
"Assuch,wehavecalledonthepublictoraisetheirawarenessofthepreventionandcontrolofthediseasecausedbyfamilygatherings,"saidZengduringadailymediabriefingbythemunicipalgovernmentregardingeffortstocontainthespreadofthevirus.
Expertsexplainedthatdirecttransmissionreferstoinfectioncausedbyinhalationofairclosetoapatientwhosneezesandcoughs,whilecontacttransmissionoccurswhenapersontouchesanobjecttaintedwithdropletscontainingthevirusbeforeinfectinghimselfthroughsubsequentcontactwiththemembranesofhismouth,noseandeyes.
Thegovernmenthasurgedresidentstoavoidgatherings,openwindowstohelpwithventilation,practicegoodpersonalhygieneandregularlydisinfecttheirhomes,especiallyareaslikedoorhandles,dinnertablesandtoiletseats.
